Welcome to the Trent Stroke Research Network website.

The Trent Stroke Research network was established in 2006 as part of the national Stroke Research Network (SRN). It is one of eight local research networks funded by the Department of Health to facilitate the conduct of randomized prospective trials and other well-designed studies of stroke, including those for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The network covers a population of approximately 10 million.

We are a group of doctors, nurses, therapists, lay persons and researchers with experience of stroke. We work together to facilitate the conduct of high quality clinical research and foster the integration of research into clinical practice to prevent strokes and to achieve better outcomes and thus improve quality of life for stroke patients and their families. We aim to increase the opportunities for patients who have had a stroke in the Trent area to take part in clinical trials, and other well designed studies, which are well conducted by trained staff.

The Administrative base for the network is in Leicester, co-hosted by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust’s Cardiovascular Research Programme and the University of Leicester Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. The Director, Professor Tom G. Robinson is now based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Network Manager, Dr Donna Richardson, and the rest of the Coordinating Centre are based at the Leicester General Hospital. Individual Stroke Researchers employed by the network are based in participating centres in North Trent (Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield), Mid Trent (Chesterfield, Derby, Mansfield and Nottingham), South Trent (Boston, Grantham, Kettering, Leicester, Lincoln and Northampton), Norfolk and Suffolk (Great Yarmouth, Ipswich and Norwich) and West Anglia (Bedford, Cambridge, King's Lynn, Luton and Dunstable and Peterborough).
